Straight out of an exclusive interview with Japanese gaming magazine Gemaga, when asked what his goals for 2012 are, Blazblue producer Toshimichi Mori responded that he wants to make Blazblue 3.

This is a pretty big thing because it’s not another subtitled update, but rather the next full blown sequel. As someone who follows these games not just for the fighting mechanics but the story as well, this is awesome news. I was concerned that Mori would be dragging out the spinoff novels and quasi-sequels. Continuum Shift Extend actually has a ton of new content from what I’ve played thus far, but I really want to see the next big step.

Immediately after revealing his desire to make the next game, Mori added that he wants to make an anime as well. While it seems he’s half joking and half serious, he then went on to request that studios please contact him. I remember the first time I cleared Calamity Trigger’s story mode, I found myself wishing that a studio would pick up the franchise. I think it’d work fantastically in animated form. A quick bit of a trivia that some of you might not be aware of, but Extend’s upgraded Calamity Trigger story mode was worked on by visual novel studio Nitro Plus. Something for you VN lovers to look out for.

Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend will be launching with the Playstation Vita in North America come this February.

With Continuum Shift Extend already out on Asian shores and coming to the rest of the world Q1 2012, Blazblue 3 is more than likely to be out in 2013 as I’m sure it will be a continuation to the story as well as a major update to game mechanics.

Since there is already a very deep story with a lot to detail (including joke endings), will this be the last Blazblue? Will there be more characters to add to the story? Will there be more playable characters? We’ll have to wait for more announcements!

Revealed by Famitsu earlier in the week, it was confirmed that BBCS2Plus would get a slight name change (becoming BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend), along with a console release- what type of release (be it patch, DLC, disc, or something other) has not been mentioned yet. It is, however, confirmed that it will have Relius Clover playable; the new stories featured in the PSP Vita version of the game; the “Abyss” mode, and a new network-based mode. There are few specific details yet on this, but it’s assume ASW will release more details within the coming weeks.

From Famitsu comes confirmation that the PSP Vita version of BlazBlue (Continuum Shift II +) will be getting not only extra features, but new characters as well. The first (and so far, only) revealed character being Relius Clover (and Ignis). From the screen-shots, is appears he has a similar gauge to Carl Clover’s Nirvana gauge in battle, plus he’ll have his own stage (thus meaning BB:CS2+ will have new stories, stages, music and characters).

According to Famitsu, there are also possible plans for more DLC updates to the console versions of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. Whether this means just balance patches, or bringing the new character(s) to the console version, is unknown.
Relius will be playable at the Akihabara Hey! loketest on August 11th, and will be added to arcades in Japan this coming Winter.

If you missed the last one don’t worry, here is a link to the previous one.

In this follow up interview, Mori talks about the current development of Blazblue and its storyline as well as other games he’d like to try and create once Blazblue is finished. One question asked was what games he’d like to create if he wasn’t working on Blazblue in which he replied:

Action games. I’ve been thinking about making an action game like Devil May Cry for a long time.

During the recent E3, a new portable version of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift was revealed- alongside a short demo- for the newly announced Sony console, “PSPVita”. The game is rumored to have “six new story modes” (though there are no details on this, as of yet!), and like the previous portable installment, will come with the BB:CS DLC characters Makoto Nanaya, Valkenhayn R. Hellsing, and Platinum the Trinity. The game will have online play, and ArcSystemWorks are currently testing 3G with the game.

The game is still in development, however Aksys have already confirmed that they will be translating the game and releasing it in America. No word has been had from the European publishers ZenUnited yet.
