Like the other people said, you just have to hit the inputs and buttons quick enough. One thing though, don't mash. Most of the times the combo won't work for some reason if you mash the next move.

Yeah this is good advice. The whole point of the combo's in Challenge Mode is to help you learn your characters moves, combo's aswell as the timing required between each attack. Challenge Mode is my safe zone. 8-)

Mashing the next attack basically forces the game to register an attack that either doesn't belong or is infact a completely different attack e.g. Jin's 5C mash is an entirely different attack to his 5C itself. So mashing it to combo in a 5C will lead to a different attack. But i'd only worry about it if your a Jin user.

With anyone else, it mostly screws up your timing for the next move or sometimes cancels them out if a DC (Dash Cancel) or jC (Jump Cancel) is involved. So learn the timing and don't mash. Easier said than done though. I'm prone to mashing at times myself.;)

Some combos need some delaying so mashing isn't going to work for those.

For example, Tager Challenge Mode 12, A sledge doesn't connect if you mash it straight after 5C.

I noticed that. I found out that for the moves with quicker animations it's better to input the command asap, the ones with a bit slower, it's good to wait till the hit lands, where you get that slight delay, and then input the next command as quickly as you can. If you just mash through then it'll just ignore some of the commands you pit in.

Yep.

There are alot of combo's that require a good pause like Hazama's corner combo's e.g. 6A, 236236B, 66(DC), 214D... wait till the opponent falls to hitting level then press C (for 214D-C) then the rest of the combo. Or a typical mid screen combo 6A, 236236B, 66, 214D (again wait) -C, 66, 5C, 2C, (then his chains) 6D-A, 4D-A, 8D-A, 623D. There's alot of timing involved in that 1 combo. Can't mash the chains.

Took me a while to get to grips with Hazama after putting Ragna aside. Totally different play style. But Hazama is definitely a better choice for me.

I usually do what Strider said anyways, and I've been doing alright. Just need to work on blocking and using barrier.

I've started to branch out to other characters a little, and I landed on Hazama to find he's a lot of fun to play, as bad as I am.

Does anyone know any simple, useful combos for him? I only have:
... 3C > 214D A
214D C > 5C > 21478B
4B+C > 632146C
4B+C > 236D
B+C > 623D > 632146C
236236B > backdash > 623D

I dont main hazama so I can't help you with combos, but I can point you in the direction of a few hazama players namely,

Hazama-ichimaru
Joshua

Mid screen stuff on standing/crouching opponent most of the time is stuff like

stuff>3C>236C (e.g. 2A>5B>2B>5C>3C>236C) Any starter midscreen always goes into either 3C>236C or just 3C unless you go for mixups or resets.

Corner stuff:

stuff>3C>236D>5C(1)>6C>665C>2C>2147B>5C>2C>214D-B>3C>214D

You can omit the 2147B part and do something like stuff 6C>665C>2C>j.B>j.Cx2>j.Cx5>214B

Houtenjin midscreen:

stuff>Houtenjin>66214DC>6C>665C>2C>6D-A>4D-A>j.8D-A>623D>j.2D-D>6C>662C>j.Cx5>5C>623D>3C>super/214D

That's from good starters, 2A/5A/2B probably won't work. If it's a dumb starter then omit 662C and just do 665C>2C>j.Cx5>214B

He also has TK Hirentou loops but I haven't been looking much into Extend Hazama, so you'd have to ask Joshua or Owner(Although he plays Valk now)

Corner combo:

stuff>Houtenjin>214DC>666C(crossover)>5C>2C>6D-A>4D-A>j.8D-A>623D>5C(1)>6C>5C>2C>j.Cx5>214B

He now has different combos in the corner like the Tk Hirentou loop and 214D-B>5C>2C-214D-B stuff but you'd have to ask somebody else since I don't know them.

Keep practicing, you'll get the hang of it.
