Hello,

I bought BlazBlue CSE for the PS3 when it came out here in Canada which was February the 23rd, 2012. For some reason the game looks worse than it does in the screenshots and 1080p youtube videos which I watch on my laptop screen. I've been playing it on a Philips LCD tv 40PFL5505D that runs at 1080p and an older Cathode Ray Tube Tv that runs at 480i. But even on the Philips Tv it doesn't look as good. It looks pixely. I know that's not a word, but I can see the pixels quite clearly where as on a youtube video I can't see the pixels. And it's not a minor difference Noel just looks so much better in the youtube video than she does on my screen. She almost seems… out of place it's hard to describe.

Has anybody else experienced this? Is it possible I have a defective copy?

I would appreciate any support. Thank you.

P.S. The PS3 is set to run at 1080p and Uncharted 2 looks great. This is my first Blazblue game, I'm really liking it by the way!

I don't think blazblue runs at 1080p . Very few games utilise it.

you don't need 1080p to enjoy the superior art style though.

Well, BlazBlue does use sprites and if you're running the game on an HD TV, then you will see the pixels of the sprites far more clearly then on a Standard Definition TV. However, the larger the screen, the more noticeable it is, and the reverse holds true for smaller screens. Also, very few YouTube videos run at true 1080p HD, or even HD for that matter, so the sprites are slightly 'blurred'.

That being said, some people, such as myself, love sprites and how they look and BlazBlue's are some of the most beautiful to watch in motion.

Thank you for your replies.

I know that the game only runs at a max of 720p. In fact Uncharted 2 does as well. Most PS3 games run at 720p with a few exceptions as you say. And indeed Blazblue does have a wonderful style.

The most reasonable explanation does seem to be that because of youtube's blurring effect and because my laptop screen is far smaller than my 40 inch Philips TV that the game looks more pixelated or "pixely" than it does on youtube or screenshots. In fact I found one screenshot that looked similar to what I see on my tv, although others do not. Blur I guess. Thank you Deva Ashera for this explanation.

I think the idea that I have a defective copy is unlikely because from what I've read defective copies usually don't even function. Or loading times are super long. But a game functioning perfectly but having some sort of graphical defect? I think that's almost unheard of or... doesn't really make any sense.

I may take a photo for you all to see what it looks like. I'll include one or two screenshots of youtube and from google images if I do.

Again thanks for all your help!

Do you even use an HDMI cable for your resolutions?

You can set your PS3 to projects any game at 1080p even if they don't support it. That's what I did and BB runs on 1080p for me instead of 720p.

It also depends what videos you watch, what TV you play on, and what type of screen your laptop has.

While this isn't 1080p, here is an example:

Your TV might also be one of the really old LCD/Plasma TV generations, and might have a low Contrast ratio.

For example, my TV's contrast is at around 50,000 : 1 because it is one of the reaaaaally old models and an 40 incher just like yours. (It's 5 or 6 years old, if not longer) while the new ones contrast is like 5,000,000 : 1 (Those are also the moderately cheap TVs.)

No. A PS3 will automatically change the system's resolution to 720p when the game starts. It's 720p.

An Xbox will leave it at 1080p.

If you want proof, I can get you pics.

Also, watch my TV switch from 720p to 1080p when I end the game. Then watch it go from 1080p to 720p when I start the game again.

lol I ran the video slightly too long, but I don't feel like fixing it.
