I may be resurrecting a dead topic, but it's not like I haven't done that before.

Anyway, the other day I was in a mirror match with another Nu. Now... I normally don't do mirror matches but I made an exception because I was bored. So the guy has a Mic and I decimated him twice in a row. He starts getting butthurt because I 'grab too much' and I don't give him space. He complains that Nu isn't designed to fight face-to-face and that my play style is stupid. Granted, people rant when they get beat, so I shrugged most of it off, but I responded back explaining that people ignore her melee potential and always focus on her swords. As time went on, he began winning matches simply because he would purposely put as much space between me and him and start wailing D as much as possible to keep me back. I felt like I was controlling Tager at that point. He went on to test his theory by fighting me with Jin, Ragna, Taokaka, Tager and Noel, all of which I beat using her 'bnb' combo all of maybe twice per match, and only after a successful grab.

Needless to say, I think Nu has potential that is completely overlooked in a lot of areas, and when people say that she is overpowered, I tend to be confused. But this match put it in perspective for me. Nu has the potential to be incredibly cheap and broken if the person playing puts all of their effort into doing nothing but avoiding you and throwing as many swords as humanly possible. This is true, and I hear they've made fixes to this in Lambda's character, which I'm actually happy about. But I for one would like to say that Nu has the potential to also be a great match up when played with someone who knows there is more to life than D. Hell, when I was playing against his Tager, I grabbed him more than he grabbed me. About 7 times total in the entire match, compared to his twice for me, and one of those was a 720. At that point it was basically relying on him to pull off his 720 to try and finish me off as quickly as possible.

I've watched 'high end fights' with 'pro' Nu users, and even then I"m sometimes upset that I see more sword spam than actual fighting. I think this has propagated because of the fact that no one has bothered to invest time in looking past Nu's Drive. The whole 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' philosophy. But for a character like Carl for instance, the search to make him more effective continues, not simply because he's a bad character or anything, simply because his 'good' strings involve more than one button.

I just want to go on record as saying that Nu's 4C is probably her most amazing move to date, and no one ever uses it. Ever.

yes but remember that 99% of the players out there are going for "win by any means" so they just go for the more effective approach. Honestly every character has the potential to not be cheap, but thats not stopping the vast majority of nus from doing the keep-away sword spam, jins from spamming j.B and the same tired old jump combo after it (oh ya, i forgot 5D), arakunes from spamming their drive and dive, carls from using the loop, etc.

the fact that the character can be used in a non-cheap way does not un-cheapify the character, mostly since the vast majority of players would go for it anywho to get their wins.

I personally dont think nu is "broken", but i definately see she does indeed have an advantage vs the rest of the cast. (undeniable when she has very high damaging and heatless combos that can be performed from a safe distance and u cant burst out of them cuz u would end up even more fucked, as well as having pretty good melee in case some1 gets close). At my level of play i only see that advantage of hers as a "slight" advantage.

And the calling of nu cheap and broken is not limited to ppl who loose to her and are butt-sore like many nu users tend to believe (not incluiding u here Cube), i know a top skill nu user (the guy who made up those early CS tiers from what he had seen) and he agrees that nu is definately way more powerful than she should be. Most of the highly skilled nus are actually tremendously glad she got nerfed in CS.

i think nu is a pretty col gal. seh kills teh planet by fusing with ranga during tiem travel and doesn't afraid of anything.

...

Seriously, the only thing that makes a character overpowered is if you're not fighting them the right way. How do you beat Nu? Easy -- Keep as close to her as possible and don't stop attacking, no matter what.

I assume.

Getting close is the solution, and the biggest problem. She can keep you out pretty well. Against high level Nu players you're mainly only going to get in if they mess up and give you an opening.

To people who call Nu Op:
You're wasting energy that you could be using to get better at the game and "pwning" Nu's complaining.
So stop hating, and start playing!

Edit:
@MIT
Litchi, Bang, and Ragna got damage buffs, I think.
That'll probably be toned down a bit in the rebalancing, considering they're a little OP now.
I know you said almost, just wanted to inform people that didn't know.

Well, the only thing that makes Nu OP is the fact that getting to her weakness is much harder than for other characters. Heck, some characters, like Tager and Hakumen, are already exposed in a way, and they have to work to hide their weakness. She also deals a lot of damage.

But this is only for high-level play. I mean, yesterday, I did a 13-hit combo on Hugh two days ago, and then he dealt quite a lot more than that in a single grab. And this is something a pro could stop, but I'm not used to playing Tager, and I end up dying in, like, four hits (a grab, a two hit combo and a 360/720...yay...)

So the whole thing is that, when you don't know all the little facts on every character, you fall for those traps, and the better character is the one that deals the most damage in one string (so Hakumen's 4-hit combos deal more than Litchi's 7-hit BnB, which makes him better at low level, even though his usefulness fades away as the level of play rises).

You seriously take this she is gona zomg QQ to a new level lol.

Zato-1 died in GG

He was replaced with the shadow Eddie hosting his body

This is basically the same thing with v-13 and A-11

V-13 is dead she is a Clone of Ragna's sister

A-11 is Alive she is a clone of Ragna's Sister

There playstyle is still true to "General Zoner". There is no more fighting anyhow Arc deemed her too good and toned it down with A-11. They also Toned down almost all the cast (damage-wise) with in certian regaurds.

lol im not QQ'ing but i still find it funny people argue about nu, who is not gonna be a issue in 3 months lol

A bit off-topic:
When people complain about "OP" they're basically saying "I don't have enough skill to get around the annoying things about said character".
But anyway, the problem with declaring "OP" is that not only are the people looking like a complete ass, they're offending people who use said character, and doing as said before.
It's unnecessary and can break gaming communities apart. If you have a problem with balancing, either: quit the game, or make up for "OH PEE" with skill.
Unless it's something that's completely game-breaking (cannot be worked around) like All Guard! D:< (I know, that can be worked around, I'm just still a noob at Dissidia and I'm not sure yet.)
